“Our daughter was married at this villa this summer. It was everything she dreamed of. We stayed at the villa for two weeks, with our group of 14 family members. The villa itself is magnificent. The stone structure and beautiful gardens were enjoyed by all. The wedding was held outside in one of the gardens, overlooking the mountains. I could not think of a more fitting location for this event.”

"It is definitely one of the most beautiful houses that I could find in Tuscany. The owners are wonderful people. We have a great communication and they are very helpful. I can highly recommend this place. It is pure magic."

"We used the villa as our home base to explore quaint villages, marvel at the ancient churches, and shop in the local markets... We also took day trips to a vineyard, to the beach and to the marble quarries where the ancient Romans would cut slabs for statues and monuments... Each night, however, we looked forward to returning to this castle in the sky as our home away from home."

"We barely had time to experience much of what the villa offered because we were doing our best to enjoy as many of the special Tuscany sights as possible during our family's week-long stay. Florence, Lucca, Cinque Terre and Greve in Chianti wineries were just a few of the special places we traveled to from this home base in the Garfagnana mountains. If you want to truly immerse yourself in old world Italy, this is a wonderful place to create an unforgettable experience!"

— Ted S.

"The villa surpassed our expectations. Each day we were overwhelmed by the breathtaking views from the balcony and the incredible beauty of the rooms inside. Three generations of my family went on this enchanted adventure and it was the trip of a lifetime; one which none of us will ever forget!"

“The Perpoli estate is unlike anything we have ever experienced. The view from the balcony of neighboring towns can have you mesmerized for hours...If you choose to pursue this vacation option, you will not be sorry. It is both relaxing and invigorating. You will come home with a new found knowledge of a historic and beautiful culture and geographic region. Don't forget to bring a good camera and listen for the dog that barks around 2pm in the valley somewhere miles away!"

“Best vacation of our lives!”

One arrives at the Perpoli Villa after driving up a winding, narrow road until you think you're lost, then suddenly you pass through a stone archway and onto a cobbled alley that leads to the doorway of a classic country villa. This is a lovingly restored 12th century small castle said to have been the summer Residence of the Bishop of Pisa. The first thing to do is step onto the terrace and take in sweeping views of the Tuscan hills, studded with tiny vineyards, fruit orchards, and pointy cypress trees that look like patchwork quilts of green along the gentle slopes in the distance. The house is extremely well-appointed, with a modern chef’s kitchen that was the center of family activity for our stay. The pool is a refreshing and luxurious retreat from the heat of the Tuscan summer. The rooms and baths have modern amenities without losing any of the ancient charm of the place. We shared the house with three families, and kids of various ages, and there was enough space to gather everyone for meals or find private time away from the group. This was my family’s first trip to Italy and while the villa feels very far from the crowded streets of the busy tourist cities, we were close enough to visit the major Tuscan sights in a day trip. It was an easy drive to Pisa (about an hour), the Roman beach resort of Viareggio, the Carrara marble mines, and the medieval walled city of Lucca with its fashionable European vibe (50 minutes). On market day, we drove 10 minutes to Castelnuovo di Garfagna where we shopped for iItalian linens, shoes, clothes and kitchenware, all ridiculously inexpensive. My favorite hill town was tiny, magical Barga, just 10 minutes away, where opera poured from doorways and windows. On lazy days we stayed by the pool while the kids wandered through the orchards looking for plums, and then for dinner visited a restaurant 5 minutes down the hill that served pasta as good as any you’ll ever eat. My 11-year-old and 16-year-old proclaimed our vacation in Perpoli the best of their lives and keep asking when we can go back. We felt as if we’d been let in on a wonderful secret and we will return as soon as we can.

A sense of history is perfectly married to the feeling of family.

When one journeys 18 hours from Western Canada, there is some natural trepidation for what lies on the top of Monte Perpoli. There is no cause for concern, as Villa Perpoli (pronounced Pair-poly) is all and more for which one could hope. Tucked away from tourists and nestled in the Tuscan hills, one family’s dream rapidly becomes yours for a magical time. The valley vista alone is worth the cost, however the wonderful neighbouring towns such as Garfagnana Castelnuovo and medieval Barga top all expectations. Even for seasoned European travellers, the vagaries of overseas travel fade into oblivion, with the wine botega panini lunches and world class dining experiences within 5-20 minutes of Villa Perpoli. Within 1-2 hours driving are the classic Italian adventures of Pisa; Florence; Lucca, Lerici; Portofino; Parma; Cinque Terre and many other wonderful destinations. Local access to support (domestic help and owner’s representation) is a huge comfort. The villa has all the modern conveniences and surpassed our family’s expectations for comfort. The work entailed in the restoration of this 800 year old villa is beyond description to the uninitiated land owner, as one can only imagine what went into this project. A sense of history is perfectly married to the feeling of family. The sounds of nature and the beautiful valley’s chiming bells should last a lifetime.

The highlight of our recent trip to Italy!

Staying in this amazing villa was the highlight of our recent trip to Italy! Authentic but with modern conveniences made it perfect in every way. Perched on a hilltop in the small village of Perpoli was truly romantic magical. Sitting on the balcony, listening to the birds, hearing the church bells with the spectacular view watching the clouds go by, was so relaxing, that it was hard to get up. It's now my "go to place” in my mind to de-stress. I especially loved the kitchen! We built a fire in the mornings and the warmth and coziness made it a perfect way to start the day. In addition, every window's view was like looking at a painting. We loved walking around the beautiful grounds and area, it was so inviting to explore. Everything done to rebuild the villa was absolutely perfect! We so appreciated Kal and Candaces's hospitality, making this a little piece heaven on earth!.
